Only a defeat in Ukraine in their penultimate qualifier prevented a 100% record and Fabio Capello won plenty of plaudits along the way. England last lifted the trophy in 1966 with a semi final in Italia 1990 the closest they have come since. Capello will have plenty of selection dilemmas along the way with the teams 'spine' coming under the most scrutiny. If Terry , Ferdinand , James , Gerrard , Lampard and Rooney are all fit then they will have a strong chance of making the quarter finals and beyond.
